We scanned 24 top SaaS sites for AI-search readiness. 1 in 3 have no structured data.

AI search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI) is becoming how buyers find software. We ran 24 of the most popular SaaS sites through a readiness check. The headline: even polished, well-funded sites routinely miss the technical fundamentals that decide whether AI engines can read and cite them.

What we found

The good news: none of these sites block AI crawlers outright, and all have a sitemap and Open Graph tags. The gaps cluster in two places:

Structured data is the #1 gap. 8 of 24 sites (33%) ship no JSON-LD at all on the homepage, including Notion, Linear, Airtable, Substack, Clerk, Cal.com, PostHog and Gumroad. JSON-LD (Organization, FAQPage, Article) is the layer AI engines use to classify and quote a page. Its absence is invisible to humans but real to machines.
Titles and meta descriptions are often too short. Several sites use a 1-3 word title or a thin description, giving engines little to summarize.
llms.txt is rare — but that is fine. There is no evidence it improves AI citations yet, so we treat it as optional hygiene, not a ranking factor.
